Current title
The design process of publications from leading and progressive creative design studios.
Current format / 'product'
A single / series of publications on the subject of the design process of independent design studios around the world.
Content / research
Content will be driven in the form of secondary research, showcasing work that is relevant to my practice generally work that's inspiring to me and projects that has influenced my design process and informed where I'd like to be heading after this course. Primary research will include studio visits and interviews with a selection of appropriate design studios, discussing their own practice and views on the subject of publication designs.
Format / Product
Based on budget, content and print runs I'm currently planning for this, I have decided (for now) to use Lulu.com to produce my design context resolution. As it stands, this is currently an A4 publication, with 114 pages, the interior spread will be in black & white with a full colour front cover.
What I have done so far
- Decided on my concept and what I want to produce
- Got in contact with relevant design studios & people for interviews and answering my questions around the subject of my publication
- Made relevant studio visits
- Sourced and documented and collected secondary research
- Devised a rough structure for the publication
- Produce mockup of publication format - testing lulu print quality
- Set a deadline for sending publication off to print externally
What I need to do
- Collect all interview answers from design studios, organise and categorise these.
- Continue to develop format
- Start working on the layout and design direction of the publication
- Start categorising all information collected - both primary & secondary
- Develop the book structure and define what the full content's going to be.
