A great selection of work by UK based design studio Julia, which consists of several Royal College of Art graduates. They have a very good selection of work on their website, some very inspiring material for both my own design practice and research for design context.
I'm particularly drawn by the publication work as you might expect! The Royal College of Art Annual is one of my favourites, great simple approach, with precise layout and type consideration and a good balance of type & image. A particularly interesting piece that I'll probably be referencing for the interior design course book that myself and Dave are working on.
Another project that appeals to me in particular is the New Simplicity exhibition identity and materials including a publication showcasing all the work and a website. A perfect reason for some minimal design executed to a very high standard. The beauty of this is that it's so simple and well considered that it doesn't seem dull or pretentious at all, infact it fits very well with the content that it's presenting and the overall publication but be so engaging to flick through.
Last but not least, the final piece that I admire (along with most of the other work on their site), this typeface design I feel deserves a mention as part of my context research. My practice focuses on designing with typography, I've been meaning to spend more time working on a typeface design, but never had the opportunity to fully achieve this. This typeface by Julia has adjusted my interest in place again within type design. Maybe sometime during this model, I can dabble a bit into type design! Hopefully.
